Postcards from the Edge

It’s been a while since we’ve run letters from our readers and we felt it was time to let you sound off. Our first note comes to us from Peter Steen, dedicated fan of hockey (and host of a famous hockey talk show in Toronto in the ‘90s) and the POSTAL series, who just caught the trailer for the “Postal” movie…

Hi guys!

After hearing back from Vince and learning that he'd love to see some pics and whatever if I went to the Tampa Comic Book and Collectibles Convention, or Tampacon for short, [dressed as the Postal Dude] that he'd love to see them. I don't want to overload your inboxes with too many pics, but if you'd like, I can send a couple as well as links. I swear, I never thought I'd receive so many comments and compliments on my friggin' shovel as the Dude! A lovely dancer and model Brittany Morrow was balancing a sword on her head at one time, and decided to balance my shovel while going low! I swear, garden tools and limbo never looked so good!

I've been telling my friends about the game, site and movie. After telling them about the over the top violence, and surprisingly even that Gary Coleman was a boss character in the game, their curiosity was piqued! I've even gotten a curious superhero Dan Williams, AKA Parthenon from Who Wants to be a Superhero's season 2 wanting to look into it! Being gay, I intentionally neglected to tell him about the Fag Hunter game in A Week in Paradise. I'm trying to get more people into the game, not turn them off.

I'm also in the midst of trying to petition my local theater, the AMC Lake Square 12 in Leesburg FL to carry the film, thus far it's not on their list. I'm doing my best to promote the games and movies, and thus far, I'm the only spokesperson in the area. I'll keep doing my best, and I REALLY hope this movie's going to be as good as the previews look!

Here's a link to my Myspace, plenty of pics there. http://www.myspace.com/manyfacesofdave
By the way, every time I click on The Postal Dude's Myspace, now it asks for a login and password from media.pimpmyspace.org that I can't give it, so then it locks out the background for the page. Hope you guys get that fixed. I also posted two videos I made as The Postal Dude on YouTube as comments on The Dude's page. Here's the direct link: http://www.youtube.com/ManyFacesofDave

Keep up the kickass work, and here's a couple new pics my friends posted that I haven't yet. Enjoy!

Ho Lee Fuck!

That is the best-looking film I've ever seen advertised. Not only does it have Foley (a most excellent Canadian) but you as Krotchy. Congrats, bro!

—Peter

Yeah, Vince’s cameo as Krotchy always pops the RWS fans in the audience. What can we say? It was type casting, Peter!

Dear Running with Scissors,

I received my 10th Anniversary Postal Collection last week and would just like to congratulate you guys on putting together the coolest, most value added, and all around original package I've ever seen from a PC/video game developer. In my mind, RWS is one of the only true indie developers out there and your attitude and creativity is very refreshing considering the state of the current gaming community.  Here's to another 10 years (and longer!) of Postal goodness!

Thanks for the entertainment and laughs!

In Sept, I'll be shipping out and actually making something of myself. My name's Larry Monacelli and I'm a future soldier in training. Signed my contract Nov 5, going Military Police and I can't wait to serve and protect this country.

Anyways, I used to play POSTAL all the damn time back in the day, and I had gopostal.com saved in my favorites. Took a quick stop into your site, saw the "We support the troops" at the bottom, and just wanted to say that in today's day and age you really don't see a whole lot of support for our troops back home. Not only does it make me feel proud to serve my country, knowing that people I haven't even MET have my back, but I can guarantee you that I'm not the only future soldier or soldier that's seen and appreciated RWS's support.

Thanks.

Private Larry Irvin Monacelli Jr.
Future Soldier.

Dear Pvt. Monacelli:

Thank you. Your service cannot be commended enough. For me, having RWS support all our troops, future, present and past, is an obligation as a patriot.

I am blessed to have an Iraq War vet, disabled, a really great guy and good friend staying with me in my home as a guest, along with his wife,.

Many years ago, after 9/11, I tried to send 1000 copies of the original POSTAL to the Pentagon for troops serving on ships and overseas. While that effort was not successful it lead to a great friendship with a certain Colonel serving in Afghan. Moreover, we haven’t given up on getting our games to the troops.

I hope to meet you in person someday, Larry. The honor is all mine.

God Bless Always,

Vince

"I have had Vince and Mike of Running with Scissors on my radios show and internet TV programs of the years, When they hit the studios the phones light up from around the world. When Vince had been on the show you won’t see anyone more into promoting his love and that is the game Postal. He is a believer that the underdog still can go out and make your dreams come true in the good old US of A! I would like to thank Vince and Mike for being on the program. Postal People Good People!!"

Hi Vince!

Thank you again for creating the world's greatest video game!

It is a great stress reliever [and] the critics always overlook that benefit. In the near future we will probably see educational software complete with electro-shock feedback before "violent" video games ever get a fair review. Has any accredited institution ever tested the validity of these claims (of behavioral influence) as opposed to the effects of TV? I suspect that they would not think to test for positive benefits. Too bad. While I am no rocket scientist, I have yet to notice an upswing in people attacking cows with grenades. Yet I suspect POSTAL has influenced a lot of young adults that were otherwise unsure to make a choice and give programming a try. And for us blue collar types, it's a great way to blow off steam.

Running With Scissors has excelled at the A.I. portion of the game—you are light years ahead of the field in this aspect. The variety of responses (within the game) to the player's actions is both outstanding and unique. Better still is the response to “ill-advised” actions in practically any segment of the game. It is simply the very best entertainment around. "Consequences" - absolutely awesome!

The Army cat silencer inspired me to write. (The bad guys will never look the same way at cats again!) I found myself thinking… why was the RWS crew looking at all the future weapons?

SIGN ME UP FOR POSTAL 4!!!

"The guys at RWS are crazy baddasses.

They are not afraid to obliterate the bounds of good taste in the name of fun and do not care who gets offended in the process.

Keep up the great work and heres looking forward to the ne3xt decade of mayhem."
